One goal for your video SEO strategy might be to make sure the video is not only featured in the Universal Search pages, but also quickly picked up by Google News. Google recently gave their blog readers advice on how to optimize video for that purpose.

Any Google News partner may submit YouTube channel information for inclusion in Google News. Becoming a YouTube news partner can earn featured placement on the YouTube news page, and if you allow your videos to be embedded, they may appear on Google News. The following six tips will help your video appear on Google News and get the highest ROI on your VSEO strategy.

1. Upload News in a Timely Manner
It may be tempting to take plenty of time perfecting and polishing a news video with multiple segments and complex graphics. Opt instead for short, concise video that can be uploaded right away. Google will find it faster and index it while the story is still fresh, which means more links than the competition and better Universal Search rankings.

2. One Story Per Video
Focusing on only one story per video will simplify your information and help Google index the video in Universal Search even faster. The one story per video rule will also make titling the video easier. Make sure the title is specific, and try to include one of your VSEO keywords.

3. Choose the Right Category
Make sure to pause for a moment to think about what categories really best describe the content when deciding on a category for your channel. Don’t rule out making multiple channels to serve different categories if that really is the best way to organize VSEO content.

4. Provide Detailed Descriptions
As always in VSEO, the more detail provided to Google and YouTube, the better. The site offers 5000 characters so use them all to their best advantage. Use the old journalism adage of who, what, when, where, why, and how to write new content to describe the video. Include as much information as you can, and of course include VSEO keywords here as well.

5. Use the Keyword Tags
Keyword tags can provide Google with information that the title of the video may not. Take note of the words that almost made it into the title but didn’t, and use them here. According to Google, proper nouns like people, places and companies are particularly helpful.

6. Make the Videos Embeddable
In order for a video to be included in Google News, make sure to allow it to be embedded. It’s simple, fast, and provides free video hosting, so there is no reason not to do it.

Following these six steps in your VSEO strategy to get videos onto Google News will help your video achieve the best Universal Search rankings possible.
